Foto di WindhoekThere are plenty of opportunities to shop in Windhoek.

The Gustav Voigts Centre on Independence Avenue is an up-market shopping center meeting the needs of the masses and is home to banking facilities, safari outfitters, handcrafted jewelry, booksellers and music.

Maerua Mall is a young shopping mall having similar services.
Souvenir shopping is abundant with Namibia's infamous hand woven baskets, wood carvings, jewerly and other locally produced goods being sold nearly everywhere includind the Craft Centre and street vendors on the corner of Independence Avenue and Fidel Castro Street, not to mention Post Street Mall.

The Namibia Craft Centre is the place free from street vendors trying to make a sale. Offering similar products to what is found on the street, it's a fun place to come browse taking notice of the Namibian Art, fabrics, jewelry and basketry sold by 26 different stalls.

A bonus to shopping and buying here is if you purchase goods from a member of the Namibian Community Based Tourism Association, you're directly contributing to a program designed to improve the living standards of Namibians in rural communities.

The Omusati African Crafts & Artefacts is a small shop selling African masks and other wooden crafts, hand woven basketry, jewelry and various crafty souvenirs.

Bushmen Art Gallery & African Museum displays a wide variety of African Arts and crafts and is definitely worth taking a look through even if you don't plan on buying anything.

In the front is the store with arts, crafts and curious for sale.

If, however, you keep walking towards the back, an art gallery is set up dedicated to the Bushmen peoples.

Arts from around the entire African continent are sold here, as well as local Namibian tribal arts.

If you want to buy from a street vendor, make sure you bargain down the price.
The assumptions Namibians have is that you have money and lots of it.
That may or may not be true, but whatever the case the price always begins high.
Also, many are willing to trade goods for clothing, shoes or jewerly.
It may be old to you, but could be regarded as new to them.
