Franke Tower was built by gracious German settlers in 1908 to give thanks to the commander who relieved the town's garrison against Herero fighters.
The tower overlooks the town and the Omaruru River.

The Mission House, the oldest building in town, was built by missionery Gottleib Viehe in 1872.
Viehe, with patience through the divine, translated the word of God to the Otjiherero language - one hell of a task.
The mission acted as a center for meetings between the German and Herero people, leading up to 1904 massacre.

Omaruru is also home to Namibia's only vineyard.
