The traditional healer then takes the form of a supernatural creature, usually familiar animals like elephant, giraffe or lion.

Brandberg

This small dusty town is in the heart of Damaraland.

Sparsely populated, it falls short of bewitching and is really just a place to replenish your supplies, whether petrol, food or water.

The geology of the Organ Pipes, the nature of solitude, and a Petrified Forest light up the place and make the area magical.

The best way to get to the surrounding sites of Khorixas is to travel from Outjo, west along the C39 road.
However, if you are coming from the coast, Swakopmund or Walvis Bay, then venture from Omaruru, northwest on the C36, but be aware this is a main gravel road.

Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF))

Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF) is a nonprofit organization run by American Dr. Laurie Marker who is the winner of the 2009 Life Achievement Award for Conservation from the Zoological Society of San Diego, California.

CFF Research and Education Centre has one of the largest concentration of cheetah in Africa.

Since 1990, when the project began, CCF has focused on cheetah conservation, working with commercial farmers, who land is also home to the world's largest free roaming cheetah population (numbering around 3.000 cheetahs).

Waterberg Plateau, Park Drives & Accomodation

The park offers both morning and evening game drives, each about 3 hours in length.
On the game drive you will visit some of the park's permanent waterholes, and continue on through the bush.

Nevertheless, remember that the game population is less than Etosha and viewing game here is much more unlikely.

Waterberg Camp
It offers excellent accomodation.
The rooms and chalets are beautiful with en-suite bathrooms.
On location, there is a restaurant and bar, swimming pool and camping.

The early morning and evenings are best for seeing wild game.

The trail is generally well marked, however in the case you lost the markings, stay calm, spread out and look for the markings, you will find them.

Each night will be spent in a stone-walled shelter with pit latrines and access to clean water.
Nights can reach sub zero temperatures, so warm clothes are a must.

Two multi-day treks are available during the dry season, between the months of April and November.
A guided trek is organized in the western section of the park, while the unguided trek is to the southern end of the park.

These treks are very popular and usually need to be booked months in advance.
Permits need to be purchased at the NWR Reservation Office in Windhoek prior to your trek.

Equipment: 
all your camping gear will be needed if you are trekking - sleeping pad/bag, cooking stove, food, flashlight, water bottles, extra pair of clothes etc... 

Each night trekkers will sleep in a stone-walled protective shelters, however a tent is needed if you plan on camping at the bottom of the plateau the night before/after your trek.
Water is available at each shelter.

Trekking in Waterberg Plateau Park (1)

Trekking at Waterberg is stunning.

The area has many day treks, which are open throughout the year, as well as guided and unguided night treks.
The day treks, nine in total, can be done without prior reservation.
Unguided day treks fees are covered by the park entrance fee.

You should bring warm clothes for the early morning and nights, water containers and binoculars are also great to have.

The Waterberg Plateau is considerably different when compared with Etosha.
The plateau receives a significantly higher amount of rainfall than that of Etosha, thus allowing for tropical vegetation to take root.

Once on top of the plateau, you have exited civilization and entered the pure serenity of the wilderness - dung and spoor of both species of rhino, giraffe, plains game amongst many others are clearly visible.

It is important to walk slowly, it could be devastating to suddenly surprise a rhino or buffalo.
These animals will charge if surprised or frightened.

And when in absolute doubt, climb a tree (that is if there is no leopard in it) and wait for the animal to move in its way.
