Central Namibia is the starting point for the majority of travelers since most arrive at Hosea Kutako International Airport.

From here, many will venture out into the far remote corners of the country, exploring the Etosha Pan in the north, the Fish River Canyon in the south, the Kalahari Desert to the east or the Namib-Naukluft in the west.

Although Windhoek is the focal point, the capital is not large enough to consume the entire
region.

Vegetation in the central region is typically of thorn bush savannas, a plethora of grassland, bushy shrubs, camel-thorne trees all filling the hills and mountains making some spectacular scenery.

There are around 300 different birds species from ground feeders like the redbilled francolin and the helmeted Guinea fowl to those who linger in the tree tops like the magnificent pied barbet.

Wild game is also abundant throughout the area, including several species of plains antelope, giraffe, leopard, cheetah and rhino.

In recent years, many cattle farms have converted over to game farms, finding a source of income in the tourism industry.
This conversion has had a significant positive impact on the wildlife in Central Namibia.
