Omaruru

Omaruru is situated near the Erongo Mountains, on the usually dry Erongo River.

The name, in the local herero language, means "bitter milk" as the cattle used to browse on a local bush that turned their milk bitter.

The town is known for its annual festival where the Hereros commemorate their past local chiefs, its winery and for the dinosaur footprints at nearby Otjienamaparero.

If you are planning a trip to Omaruru in the month of September you should time it to coincide with the Annual Artist Trail which is usually held in the first week of the month having exhibits including musicians, sculpors, photography and many more.
